Let me tell you about my adventure chasing those elusive, golden little guys across the Great Red Sand. It all started when I pulled Cyno, the Electro General, and realized I needed a ton of these Scarabs to make him truly shine. I remember the first time I saw one—just a glint in the sand, rolling its little dirt ball like it owned the place. "Alright, buddy," I thought, "let's see how fast you can roll."

Man, farming Scarabs in 2025 is still one of the trickiest things in Genshin Impact. Why? Because these beetles love playing hide-and-seek! The map makes it look like they're all chilling together, but half of them are actually underneath, locked behind quests and secret doors. Talk about a headache! For this diary, I'm sticking to the ones you can find above ground—no fancy clearance levels or world quests needed. Just you, me, and the open desert.

My Top Above-Ground Scarab Routes

Here's the route I swear by. I've split them into easy-to-remember groups. Trust me, it saves so much time.

Group 1: The Western Welcome (Scarabs 1-4)

This is where I always start. Teleport to the Khaj-Nisut Waypoint on the west side. Once you're there:

  • Head southwest from the waypoint. You'll spot two Scarabs right by the stairs—couldn't be easier!

  • Keep going southwest until you see two Pyro Flowers. Peek to their left, and bam, two more Scarabs waiting.

It's a perfect warm-up. Four Scarabs in under a minute. Not bad, huh?

Group 2: The Aaru Village Ambush (Scarabs 5-10)

Now, things get a bit more scenic. Start at the Land of Lower Setekh Waypoint northwest of Aaru Village.

  • From the waypoint, go northeast and duck into the underpass beneath the cliff. Two Scarabs are hiding in the shade here.

  • This next part is fun: use the sand storm and the glowing Four-Leaf Sigils to zip to the top of the cliff. Once you're up, head northeast again.

  • You'll reach a spot where you need to drop down a level. Look beside an Iron Chunk—there's your next beetle.

  • Travel north to the northern Land of Lower Setekh Waypoint. Two more Scarabs are hanging out here.

  • For the tenth one, fast travel to the Aaru Village Statue of The Seven. Go northeast, and right under a tunnel, you'll find your prize.

Phew! This route has a bit of everything: climbing, gliding, and a nice view.

Group 3: The Sobek Oasis Scramble (Scarabs 11-16)

Time to head east. Go to the Land of Lower Setekh Waypoint south of Abdju Pit.

  • Southwest from the waypoint is your first target, just off the path.

  • Walk west until you see some Eremite mercenaries. The Scarab is bravely sitting right in front of them. Brave little guy!

  • Go southwest, and you'll find one atop a rock.

  • Continue up the hill, and there's another on your left.

  • The fifth one here is a bit of a climber. It's on a large rock—use a Four-Leaf Sigil to reach it.

  • The last one is a bit further west, right under the Hypostyle Desert Teleport Waypoint.

Group 4: The Northern Nook (Scarabs 17-20)

You can start from either the Land of Upper Setekh Waypoint or the Statue of The Seven in the same area.

  • The first is southwest of the waypoint, near a big, lonely temple with a lake.

  • Head east to the Upper Setekh Statue. One Scarab is just lounging beside the Statue.

  • The last two are southeast of the statue, near a cliff. Here's the catch: they're under a rock that only the giant robot to the south can break. And get this—these two are a one-time deal. Once you grab 'em, they're gone for good. So make it count!

Group 5: The Lamb-Devourer Rock Run (Scarabs 21-24)

Fast travel to the Lamb-Devourer Rock Teleport Waypoint.

  • Go immediately west and use a Four-Leaf Sigil to get on a big boulder. Your reward is waiting up top.

  • From there, go northeast. You'll find another just before a cluster of three Pyro Flowers.

  • Head west through an enemy camp. Your next target is on a hill overlooking the mess.

  • Go a little further west, and the final one is on another boulder.

Quick Groups for the Road Warrior

Here’s a cheat sheet for the remaining spots. I call this my "speed-run" list:

Location Starting Point Key Directions & Landmarks
Near Dune of Elusion (25-29) Land of Upper Setekh Waypoint (east of Dune) West past Hilichurls, near sandy paths and an abandoned building.
North of Sobek Oasis (30-34) Land of Lower Setekh Waypoint (east) West near a tree with a bird, then south along main path and bushes.
Behind Dune of Carouses (35-39) Garden of Endless Pillars Domain Southwest near Pyro Flowers, east to a bush, south onto a cliff.
Outside the Mausoleum (40-43) Sekhem Hall Waypoint North in the sand, northwest up a hill, southwest behind the Mausoleum.
Near Dune of Magma (44-48) Hypostyle Desert Waypoint (outside Dune) Southeast/Northwest on temple roofs, northeast past Ruin enemies.

My Personal Tips for a Smooth Hunt 🐞

After doing this run more times than I can count, here's what I've learned:

  • Timing is Everything: Scarabs respawn every 48 hours (real-time). I set a reminder on my phone! Mark your calendar for 2025 farming sessions.

  • Elemental Sight is Your Best Friend: Spam that button! It makes those golden glows much easier to spot in the vast sand.

  • The Four-Leaf Sigil is a Lifesaver: Seriously, use them. They save so much climbing time. Zipping around the desert feels amazing.

  • Enemies? Just Ignore Them: Most of the time, you can just grab the Scarab and dash. No need to fight every Hilichurl you see.

  • One-Time Only!: Remember those two Scarabs under the rock in the north? Yeah, you only get one shot. Don't forget them!

So, that's my story. Chasing these little golden bugs across the desert, just to see my Cyno's level go up. It's a grind, sure, but there's something peaceful about it. Just you, the endless sand, and the quiet click of picking up another Scarab. Every one feels like a little victory. Now, if you'll excuse me, my 48-hour timer just went off... time for another run. Happy hunting, fellow Traveler!
